TongFang
Co., Ltd. (SSE: 600100), a listed Hi-Tech company in China, announced
today that it would establish an
Asia-Pacific R&D Center in Singapore.
TongFang
Co., Ltd. is a holding company with Tsinghua Holdings Co. Ltd. as its
principal stockholder. Licensed to
trade
at the Shanghai Stock-Exchange on 27 June, 1997, the
Company has a total equity capital of 575 million
shares.
The news was released by Mr. Lu Zhicheng, President of TongFang Co., Ltd.,
on the news release conference
of
Global
Entrepolis @ Singapore conference this morning. "We establish our Asia-Pacific R&D Center in Singapore
because of its similar language and culture to what
we have in China and the strong support received from the
Economic Development Board. In addition, as
a highly internationalized country, Singapore has
many
internationalized
talents and technologies, as well as
an internationalized market environment. All these are just
what we need for our
internationalization strategy," said Mr.
Lu.
So far, TongFang is still a
local company with its major businesses concentrated in Mainland China.
It's reported
that 92.24% of its primary business
revenue in 2005, almost RMB10 billion, was from the domestic market,
while
the overseas market accounted for only 7.76%.
In 2003, TongFang conceived an internationalization strategy.
Starting
from talent internationalization, TongFang
plans
to realize technology and capital internationalization,
and
finallybecome
a true global player. Its Asia-Pacific
R&D Center to be established in Singapore
could be deemed
asanother
important initiative for its talent and
technology internationalization strategy.

reported that the Center will be established with the R&D focus on the
information technology industry and
the
environmental
and water industry, where TongFang is
most competitive and recognized on the market.
